Preventative Health & Immunisations
At Boston Bay Family Health, we believe prevention is the foundation of long-term wellbeing. Our team offers a wide range of preventative health services and immunisations to help you stay ahead of potential health concerns. Whether it’s screening for chronic conditions, protecting against infectious diseases, or ensuring healthy ageing, we’re here to support every stage of your health journey.
Adult Immunisations/Vaccines
We provide essential adult vaccines to protect against diseases such as influenza, pneumonia, shingles, and tetanus. Our healthcare professionals will assess your needs based on age, medical history, and lifestyle, and administer the appropriate vaccinations.
Diabetes Risk Assessment (Ages 40–49)
This free assessment is designed to identify early risk factors for type 2 diabetes. It includes a blood glucose test and a review of lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and family history. Early detection empowers you to take preventative action with personalised support from our healthcare team.
Health Assessments (Ages 75+)
A comprehensive annual assessment for those aged 75 and older to help maintain independence and quality of life. It includes checks for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, mobility, cognitive health, and overall wellbeing. If you need extra help at home or are looking into aged care packages, we can assist with applications and referrals.
Heart Health Check (Ages 45–79)
A targeted assessment for individuals aged 45–79 to evaluate cardiovascular risk. This includes blood pressure and cholesterol checks, lifestyle assessments, and personalised advice to reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke. Prevention is key to protecting your heart health.
Travel Immunisations
Heading overseas? We provide advice and vaccinations for travel to protect you from region-specific diseases. Our GPs can prescribe the required vaccines, and our nurses will administer them, ensuring you’re ready for a safe and healthy journey.
Cervical Screening
Cervical screening (formerly known as the Pap smear) is recommended for anyone with a cervix aged 25 to 74. It detects HPV, a virus that can lead to cervical cancer. Early detection allows for timely and effective treatment. Unsure if you're due? Ask your GP at your next appointment.
Breast Screening
Routine mammograms are recommended for those aged 50 to 74, and screening can begin from age 40. Early detection of breast cancer greatly improves outcomes. If you experience any changes such as lumps or nipple changes, seek a GP review promptly. Your GP can also guide you on screening if you have a family history.
Bowel Cancer Screening
Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in Australia, but it’s also highly treatable when found early. If you’re aged 50 to 74, you’ll receive a free bowel cancer screening kit every two years via the national program. If you experience symptoms like changes in bowel habits, blood in your stool, or ongoing abdominal discomfort, don’t delay — book an appointment with your GP. Have a family history? We'll help you determine the best screening approach.

We develop personalised asthma management plans to help you understand your condition, identify triggers, and stay in control. These plans include guidance on correct medication use, emergency response strategies, and lifestyle advice to support your lung health.

In-Clinic Procedures & Minor Surgery
Our experienced team offers a range of in-clinic procedures to support your health, manage minor injuries, and treat skin conditions safely and effectively. We prioritise comfort, clinical excellence, and efficient care.
Cast Application
We professionally apply casts for fractures and breaks, ensuring proper alignment, support, and healing. Your GP will assess your injury and recommend the most appropriate casting option for your needs.
Cryotherapy for Skin Lesions and Warts
Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to quickly and effectively freeze and remove benign skin lesions and warts. It’s a safe, low-risk treatment suitable for most skin types with minimal downtime.
Wart Management
We offer a range of treatment options for stubborn or recurring warts, including cryotherapy and other evidence-based approaches. Your GP will tailor a plan based on the size, location, and type of wart to support successful removal.
Dressing Changes – Complex, Large, or Small
We provide expert wound care for injuries of all types and severity:
Small wounds – Cuts, scrapes, and abrasions
Large wounds – Surgical sites or trauma wounds
Complex wounds – Ulcers, burns, or slow-healing injuries requiring specialised care
Sutures – Professional stitching services for wounds that require closure to promote healing and reduce scarring
We use appropriate dressings and sterile techniques to promote healing and prevent infection.
Please note: dressing changes incur a fee, with cost varying by wound size and complexity.
Ear Checks & Syringing
We perform gentle ear examinations and wax removal using safe techniques to clear blockages, relieve discomfort, and prevent damage to the ear canal. This service also includes the removal of foreign objects if required.

On-the-spot blood sugar testing to monitor and manage diabetes or detect early signs of glucose irregularity. This simple test plays a vital role in preventing long-term complications.
ECG (Electrocardiogram)
A quick, non-invasive test that records the heart’s electrical activity. ECGs help diagnose irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias), monitor heart health, and detect signs of past or current heart attacks.
INR Check (International Normalised Ratio)
This blood test measures how long it takes your blood to clot, essential for patients on anticoagulants like warfarin. Regular INR checks help ensure medication is effective and safe.
Spirometry Testing
Used to assess lung function, this test helps diagnose and manage respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Results support accurate treatment and long-term respiratory care.
STI Screening
Confidential and professional testing for sexually transmitted infections, supporting early detection and treatment. Regular screening protects your health and helps prevent the spread of infections.
